A layer with a reason

The way you move matters as much as the weather.

Answer the questions and we will explain a starting point for fabric weight, fit, and care. Nothing is a guaranteed temperature rating.

How the finder works

Rule set 1.0 uses intensity and broad conditions to suggest a starting fabric-weight band. Higher effort or mild conditions favor a lighter layer; lower effort in cold conditions favors a heavier one; the remaining combinations start at midweight. Fit, sensitivity, and trip length add practical notes. Activity provides context and does not override those rules.

Weights below 190 GSM are grouped as light, 190–289 GSM as midweight, and 290 GSM and above as heavy for this tool. These are editorial bands, not universal manufacturing standards. Construction, wind, moisture, your own comfort, and the entire layering system also matter. Inspect the model and care information before buying.
